A Passion to Help Eradicate Curable Blindness

Forty-five million Indians are blind, but as much as 80 percent of this blindness is considered curable – and Sara Yerramilli from Pfizer’s Medical Business Technology team is on a mission to help.

Sara supports the Sankara Eye Foundation (SEF), which hopes to eradicate curable blindness by building specialty hospitals to provide eye care free-of-charge to the country’s rural poor. Today, SEF is the largest free eye care provider in the world with nine hospitals performing approximately 150,000 free eye surgeries each year – more than 1.3 million to date. SEF hopes to reach their goal of 20 hospitals by 2020.

Sara has introduced other Pfizer colleagues to SEF’s mission and accomplishments, and together, they support SEF’s work by organizing events and staffing health fair booths to raise money and awareness and expand their volunteer base.
