Sankara Eye Hospital, Rishikesh
This 100-bed eye hospital was inaugurated on 25th March 2007. Located in the picturesque town of Rishikesh and catering to the hilly terrain of Uttaranchal, this hospital will eventually perform 10,000 free eye surgeries every year.
This hospital has been built with support from the Kewalramani family. Suresh, Vijay, Varsha and Chandru Kewalramani children of Late Shri Radhakishan and late Rajni Kewalramani hail from a successful business family with a presence in India, London, Spain , USA and Nigeria. Mr. Chandru Kewalramani was responsible for establishing the first Private Telecommunications company in Nigeria- Multi-Links which is even today the most popular network in Lagos and in many other cities and towns in Nigeria. Ardent disciples of the Nirmal Ashram, the Kewalramani family is deeply involved in the social activity of that institution for many decades. Mr. Chandru Kewalramani is also a Trustee of Mission for Vision and his company Multi-Links supports a Primary Health Care project in Ibadan and a Water and sanitation project in Kebbi State of Nigeria.
The objective of the hospital is to provide the highest quality and cost effective eye surgery to the poorest of the poor of Uttaranchal and surrounding states. The hospital is equipped with state of the art instrumentation including a phaco-emulsification equipment. Almost all the surgeries will be small-incision-suture-less surgeries.
Operating under the name "Nirmala Mission Eye Hospital", as part of the Nirmala Ashram Eye Institute, it joined the Sankara family in 2010, and is operated by SECI. Follows the same standards as the Sankara Family, and is joining forces towards eradicating curable blindness in India.
