Smita Patel joined SEF, USA in 2006 to help expand the footprints of the organization into Gujarat with the Anand Hospital project. Then onwards there was no turning back.“It was highly inspirational to know that our efforts could make such a huge difference in the lives of people suffering needlessly from blindness. Just the thought that a simple surgery costing only $30 could give someone a new lease on life was very empowering”, she says.

Along with the Focus Gujarat volunteer team, Smita worked to raise awareness and funds for the Anand Hospital by traveling all over the US, attending conventions such as those hosted by the American Asian Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA), American Association of Physicians of Indian Origins (AAPI), and New York’s India Independence Day Parade, among others.

With a professional background in Biochemistry, volunteering for SEF, USA gave Smita opportunities to acquire skills in marketing, web technologies, and graphic designing. Smita is currently a leader of the Marketing team at SEF, USA.

I will continue to collaborate with the team to drive Vision 2030 towards reality.
